Meet the Instructor
Katharine Payne is the founder and operator of Braided Tales. Originally from Mendocino County, she grew up on her Grandparent's horse ranch and has benefited from equine companionship from an early age. Some of her fondest memories are of days spent running with horses in the pastures and helping her Grandpa with barn chores. Once at the ranch, she would jump out of the car and wouldn't be seen until dinnertime. As she cultivated her interests in horsemanship, Payne completed years of formal training in English and has 20+ years experience in the industry. She has worked with a variety of instructors and for stables across Mendocino and Alameda Counties. After completing her BFA in ceramics at California College of the Arts, Payne has settled in Ukiah, CA. Since being home, she has started her own business as a professional artist and art teacher and works with adults with learning disabilities. Art and horses have been the most valuable tools in her life and her greatest passions. She decided to bring the two together to create this unique program. This summer she will be receiving her Certificate for Equine Facilitated Learning and completing a summer Mentorship with Dark Horse Medicine. Payne's dream for this program extend far beyond the barnyard. From learning basic horsemanship to developing life skills, the Braided Tales Art and Equine Facilitated Learning Program welcome you to the barnyard and beyond!
